'Death Howl' is a critically acclaimed video game that takes players on an emotional journey through grief and hope, blending distinctive gameplay with a striking visual identity.
We created a launch trailer that pays homage to the game’s powerful storytelling and atmosphere, while offering a fresh cinematic interpretation of its world.

'Death Howl' uses pixel art to build an eerie, myth-shrouded world - one inhabited by monsters, spirits, and buried memories. While the game itself has a very defined visual language, the trailer was designed as its own entity: rooted in the game’s lore and tone, yet offering something different and equally distinctive
We leaned into a more cinematic approach, using angular compositions, hard shadows, a limited color palette, and intentional negative space. The result is a sense of unease, isolation, and quiet tension - mirroring the emotional weight of the story while reimagining it through a new visual lens.
'Death Howl' tells the story of Ro, a hunter from a small tribe who embarks on a quest to reclaim her beloved son from the grasp of death. In the trailer, we encounter Ro in a suspended, timeless realm - reflecting on her journey and the choices that shaped it.
Inspired by the game’s mood, we developed backgrounds that echo its themes and palette, while reinterpreting the world to fit the trailer’s cinematic aesthetic. Thanks to close collaboration with the game’s director and the team at 11Bit Studios, the trailer works as a complementary piece - expanding the lore and adding a new emotional layer to the experience.
Within thirty seconds, the trailer needed to introduce the main character, establish tone and themes, and seamlessly blend animated storytelling with actual gameplay. The final beat is a combat sequence that reimagines the game’s more static encounters, translating them into a dynamic, cinematic moment that remains faithful to the genre and the game’s core appeal.
Alongside the trailer, we also created a key visual to support and promote the game’s launch - extending the trailer’s visual language into a bold, standalone image.
