Airhead

Video game trailer

From the very first moment, we were enchanted with the vision of the world created by Handy Games and Octato for the game 'Airhead'. We had the pleasure and privilege to create the official animated trailer and intro for the game.

The Challenge

Art direction of Airhead itself exemplifies the original vision of creators, who set out to depict a world that is both inaccessible and severe yet magical and compelling. Handy Games made the point very clear – 'BluBlu, feel free to create an animation that extends the game's visual universe. Let it be yours, different, but let it faithfully reflect the reality of the game.’ Challenge accepted.

The World

The setting of Airhead is a mesmerizing mix of severity, mystery, and beauty. The first moments with our animation (and the game) take us into caves where very peculiar – head-like – plants grow (their proper name is Airhearts). When total darkness is pierced by the light brought by the explorers, shades of green and blue begin to engulf the screen. Further planes are shrouded in darkness, and where light appears, it is more pronounced and accompanied by a characteristic glow. Additionally, there’s a counter light that highlights silhouettes well, but does not allow us to see the details of physiognomy, adding to the mysteriousness.

The Creatures

The character design was developed by the talented creators of Handy Games and Octato. Our job was to give them "another life" in animation. We are glad that despite being attached to the style of their game, HG allowed us to interpret these characters in our way. In the animation, we follow the story of an unusual plant called Airheart. It consists of two halves: Airsource and Head, which together resemble a heart.

The second silent protagonist is The Body - a headless character who decides to embark on a rescue mission. Since body appears only for a few seconds or so in our video, we made sure that its posture clearly emphasizes his heroism. The animation also has no shortage of antagonists. First, there are the explorers, who unreflectively and to the core use the natural resources of the planet. The second negative character is the fearsome, merciless machine - The Collector. Our goal was to show its unrelenting persistence and brutality. Whenever you see it, you can't feel safe.
